Seminar on "Powering Tomorrow: Past, Present, and Future Trends of Renewable Energy"

On September 23rd, 2025, the Department of Electrical Engineering successfully organized an insightful seminar titled "Powering Tomorrow: Past, Present, and Future Trends of Renewable Energy." The event attracted enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and professionals keen on understanding the dynamic and evolving landscape of sustainable energy. The seminar aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the renewable energy sector, highlighting its historical roots, current progress, and promising future directions.

The session began with an engaging introduction to the history of renewable energy, tracing its origins from traditional windmills and water wheels to the early adoption of solar panels and hydroelectric power in the 20th century. The speaker emphasized how growing environmental concerns and depleting fossil fuel reserves led to the global shift toward sustainable alternatives.

Moving to the present scenario, the seminar covered key advancements in solar, wind, hydro, and bioenergy technologies. Special focus was given to the increasing efficiency of photovoltaic cells, the scalability of wind farms, and the role of decentralized energy systems in rural electrification. Real-world examples and case studies illustrated how these technologies are being integrated into national energy grids and urban planning across the globe.

Looking forward, the seminar delved into the future of renewable energy, exploring emerging innovations such as green hydrogen, artificial intelligence-integrated energy systems, energy storage solutions, and smart grids. The concept of AI optimizing energy distribution and demand forecasting fascinated the audience, as did the potential of green hydrogen as a clean fuel alternative for industries and transportation.

In addition to technical insights, the seminar also addressed the socio-economic impacts of renewable energy adoption, including job creation, sustainability-driven development, and global climate goals. Students were encouraged to consider renewable energy not just as a field of study, but as a viable and impactful career path.

The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, during which students raised thoughtful questions about research opportunities, government policies, and interdisciplinary roles in the energy sector. The seminar successfully inspired participants to pursue academic and professional paths in sustainable energy and highlighted the crucial role engineers play in shaping a greener and more resilient future.

Overall, the seminar was a thought-provoking and enriching experience, reaffirming the importance of continuous innovation and education in the journey toward global energy sustainability.
