The Civil Engineering Department (Degree) organized an Expert Talk on “Bridging the Gap – Using Theoretical Knowledge in Industry Design†on 28th February 2026 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The session was conducted by Mrs. Dharati Soni, an experienced professional with 14 years of industrial structural design experience. The main objective of the talk was to provide students with practical insights into how theoretical concepts learned in classrooms are applied in real-time industry design projects. The session aimed to reduce the gap between academic knowledge and industry expectations.
Objectives:
- To expose students to real-world industrial design practices.
- To understand the application of theoretical subjects in structural design.
- To create awareness about current industry standards and software tools.
- To guide students regarding career opportunities in structural design field.Â
During the session, Mrs. Dharati Soni explained how fundamental civil engineering subjects such as Structural Analysis, RCC Design, and Steel Structure Design are applied in actual industrial projects. She shared real project experiences, discussed design procedures, industry standards, safety considerations, and the importance of accuracy in structural detailing.
She also introduced students to commonly used structural design software and explained how theoretical calculations are verified using industry tools. The expert highlighted the gap between academic curriculum and industry expectations and guided students on how to develop practical skills, technical knowledge, and professional ethics required in the design field.
The session was interactive, where students asked questions regarding career opportunities, site challenges, and professional growth in structural engineering.
Learning Outcomes
After attending the expert talk, students were able to:
- Understand how core subjects like Structural Analysis, Design of RCC & Steel Structures are applied in industry projects.
- Gain knowledge about practical challenges faced during structural design and their solutions.
- Learn about industry-required skills and software used in structural engineering.
- Develop clarity about career pathways in industrial structural design.
- Recognize the importance of continuous learning and professional development.
